Objectives:
-
To introduce new topic concepts
-
To review vocabulary concepts
Process:
The resource is called The magic box. I usually use it with my 5-year-old students when I want to introduce some vocabulary concepts or to do a review of the words learnt.
It consists in bringing a box to class, called The magic box, with vocabulary flashcards or small objects inside. In order to open it and see what it’s inside, students have to sing ,along with the teacher, a song and say the magic words. Every time the song is sung, an inside-flashcard will be shown to the students and they will be either asked for the name of the concepts (if it is a revision of vocabulary) or introduced the new concepts (if it is the beginning of a unit/topic).
After some times singing the song and taking out concepts, the teacher might ask the students to act as teachers and do the same that the teacher did before.
The sense of curiosity, of not knowing what will be inside the box, really engages and motivates the kids to focus on and be interested in the activity!
